From January 2019 to December 2021, the EBA established an industry working group on Application Programming Interfaces under the revised Payment Services Directive (EBA WG on APIs under PSD2).
The group was chaired by the EBA and composed of representatives from a variety of external stakeholders, which the EBA consulted to identify issues that emerged as the industry was preparing for the application date of the Regulatory Technical Standard (RTS) on strong customer authentication and common and secure communication under PSD2 (RTS on SCA&CSC).
Throughout the lifetime of the group, the EBA published seven sets of clarifications in response to these requests, which are listed under “Publications” below.
Following an initial public call for expressions of interest in December 2018, the EBA WG-API was composed of an equal number of nine representatives each from Account Servicing Payment Service Providers (ASPSPs), Third Party Providers (TPPs), and API initiatives respectively, and a smaller number of other representatives from standardisation bodies, technical service providers and payment service users.
