Template 4 - Exposures to top 20 carbon-intensive firms
- Question
-
Could you please provide a single list to identify the top 20 most carbon-intensive firms?
If not possible, can you define the criteria to be considered to identify the top 20 most carbon-intensive firms? For instance: sector of the counterparty, emissions scope considered (1, 2, 3)?
- Background on the question
-
As specified in the instructions of Annex 2 of ITS on ESG Pillar 3, “Institutions shall disclose in this template aggregate information on exposures towards the most carbon intensive counterparties in the world […] Information shall be based on publicly available reputable and accurate information. Examples of data sources to identify the top carbon-emitting companies include Carbon Majors Database and Reports of the Carbon Disclosure Project and Climate Accountability Institute as well as Thomson Reuters”.
The FAQ ID 2022_6536 published on 17/02/23 stated that reported exposures should be considered at business group level : “Preparers of the disclosure shall include information on exposures towards 20 top emitting companies that are counterparties to any entities part the group, as well as towards any entity that belongs to the group of any of the 20 top emitters.”
However, it does not provide additional methodological guidance to identify those top carbon-emitting companies apart from referring to the provided lists.
